TBK Bank is a proud partner of the Quad Cities chapter of the United Way. When the United Way wanted to test out a new program in 2017, Vello, TBK Bank was eager to help out. Vello is an online tutoring program for kids grades K-3rd in the Quad Cities who are behind grade level in their reading and comprehension skills. TBK Bank adopted a local middle school and provided team member volunteers to serve as online Reading Buddies for these kids, 30 minutes each week throughout the school year. TBK Bank has partnered every year since with the Vello program as a way to Train Future Leaders in our Quad Cities Community.
Vello is just one of the ways TBK Bank is partnered with the United Way of the Quad Cities. We also participate in the United Way Day of Caring, a city wide volunteer day in the Spring, as well as offer payroll deductions for our employees to regularly give in support of the United Way.
Did You Know?
- After one round of Vello, 100% of students improved their reading scores
- Within the first year of the program, 57% of Vello students were proficient in reading
- A child’s third-grade reading level is indicative of whether he/she will graduate high school; yet 32 percent of Quad-Cities third graders are not reading at grade level.
